In the Spring of 2026, we launched our first mentorship program pairing students to receive mentorship, guidance, and support from established and later-career-stage alumni across a variety of industries. We’re so excited for our 2nd cohort!

Presented by UF AAA in partnership with AASU, the Alumni-Student Mentorship Program pairs current students with alumni for six months of virtual mentorship, October 2026 through March 2027. It's a space for career advice, real connection, and giving back to the community that shaped us.

Why We Created this Program

Alumni want to give back. This program gives our alumni a structured way to invest in current students, the same way someone once invested in us.

To bridge the gap between alumni and students. This Program builds a real, sustained relationship, five touchpoints that carry a mentorship all the way from October through March, not a one-time handshake.

To strengthen and advocate for each other. Being part of a smaller community within a large university can make it harder to find people who've walked a similar path. This program is one more way UF AAA keeps that community connected across generations, on campus and long after graduation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can apply to be an alumni mentor?
Any UF alumnus is welcome to apply, regardless of graduation year, major, or current location. No prior mentoring experience is required.
Who can apply to be a student mentee?
Current UF students are eligible to apply, particularly those looking for guidance on career paths, campus life, or navigating their time at UF.
How much time does this require?
Alumni mentors and student mentees commit to one virtual session per month from November 2026 through March 2027, in addition to a kickoff meeting in October. Sessions are recommended to be 30 minutes to an hour, scheduled around both participants' availability.
Is this program virtual or in-person?
The program is entirely virtual, so alumni anywhere can participate regardless of where they currently live.
How are mentors and mentees matched?
Matches are made based on shared interests, goals, academic or career background, and availability, using information provided in each application.
What topics do mentors and mentees talk about?
Conversations often cover career exploration, resume and interview advice, grad school decisions, campus involvement, and general life advice. Each pair can shape the relationship around what's most useful to the student.
When do applications close?
Applications are due by September 18, 2026.
When does the program start?
Matching and program kickoff take place in October 2026, with mentoring sessions running through March 2027.

Is there a cost to participate?
No, the program is free for both alumni mentors and student mentees.
